The Magic We Hold Within Us

Believe it or not, we are all magic makers.

The Magic We Hold Within Us

What do I mean when I say that I believe we are all magic makers?
Quite simply that. We all have the capacity to create magic. Now for some folks when we use the word magic, images of crystals, candles and cauldrons spring immediately to mind. And sure, I have crystals, I burn lots of candles and I suppose you could call my stewpot a cauldron of sorts.

I also consider myself a pratising witch, but not neccessarily in a way that fits the norm. I said recently to someone that I am a lone wolf, a lone witch. A bit of a maverick if you like. But to me, that is part of the magic itself. To be the individual. To create your own magic in whatever way, form, or shape that takes.

I have friends who are musicians. That to me is pure magic! My son is a talented guitarist and his music speaks directly to my soul. The way certain people sing, speaks to my soul. The rythym, the beat of a song, can speak to my soul. If it inspires me to get up and dance uninhibitedly, then again, this is magic in my view.

Then there are the artists who create magic with pen and ink on skin. Some of the most gifted magic makers I know are the those who transform bodies with their designs. The tattoos that I have are part of my spiritual journey. They hold a story within each feathered line of ink. And if you read The Wolves That Lie Within, you will see how I also use this as a way of integrating magic into my books.

The walls on my house are adorned with paintings from friends, original pieces that bring joy to me whenever I look at them. A couple were painted especially for me, one in partiular of my beloved white sheperd Belle, the inspiration for Luna. Now that is magic.

Finally I have to mention the magic of words. For all the writers, story tellers, be that in novels, poetry or even the few words that strike a chord on a social media post. Words hold a particular brand of magic. Words are power. Words can heal and words can destroy. In this way words are potentially the most powerful form of magic we can use.

Only my opinion of course and as I said, I tend to do things differently so feel free to disagree.

What I am really trying to say here, is that magic to me is a world that is open to anyone who is either creative themselves, or values and appreciates creativity in others.

And in a world that likes to box people up into neat little categories, I wish to see more people express themselves in a way that frees up the magic in their own souls.

I hope this resonates with you. If it does, please get in touch.
